Extrait de Parfum
Extrait de parfum (pure perfume, perfume, parfum, parfum extrait or simply extract) is the most concentrated and most expensive form of perfumes and is usually between 20 and 40% of oil concentration. You need only a couple of drops for each application. And this makes them very unique because they are in fact more versatile than eau de parfum.
But it is not only about the concentration. Extraits contain more precious and rare natural ingredients, their formulas can also be more complex containing more heart and middle notes.
Creating perfumes from the most expensive floral essences, usually in the initial form of absolutes or concretes, makes extraits one of a kind perfumes. Since each formulation is so unique and contains only natural botanical ingredients, it is no wonder that artisan niche perfumes are more expensive but having them in the most concentrated form allows you to use less. That is why almost all extraits are sold in splash bottles/flacons not to lose precious drops. In fact it is even more convenient to dab on your perfume only where you need it. It stays more intimate and you can control the amount you need much better. Extraits are also easier for layering different natural perfumes. They are perfect for people who have more sensitive skin.
The small 5-15ml bottles are designed to apply perfume in very small amounts because in fact 2-3 drops is all you need for each time. But as soon as you get used to the practice, it will in fact feel more convenient and easier. Extrait de parfum may feel a bit heady at the beginning due to its concentration but as the notes start opening up on your skin, you will smell the delicate tapestry of botanical accords.
